Burglars continue to strike at will in Margao; cops baffled

After virtually striking at will on the city outskirts, targeting areas such as Aquem and Borda, burglars have struck right behind the backyard of Margao police, leaving the Goa police red-faced and baffled.
That the burglars had the audacity to effect entry into a security office, that too located meters away from the Margao police headquarters, have left many a questions unanswered, indicating that the miscreants are targeting the city at will.
In the latest case reported at the office of Wild Security, the burglars managed to lay their hands on cash amounting to Rs 38,000, besides a gold chain, which was left behind in the office drawer by the owner Milagres Fernandes. The incident came to light on Monday morning when Milagres as usual came in the morning to open the office, only to find the lock and the latch of the main door
cut open.
He straight away headed to the nearby Margao police station and his worst fears came true when the police opened the door only to find the office open and valuables missing.
While the Margao police said the men in uniform are investigating the case, the police has so far miserably failed to achieve a breakthrough in the dozens of burglaries and theft cases reported in Aquem, Borda and other areas of the city till date.
Though the Curchorem police has claimed to have resolved the desecration cases following the arrest of accused Francis Pereira, the Margao police has been groping in the dark over the spate of burglaries reported across the city, at both Margao and Fatorda.
In the meantime, irate passengers travelling in the Belgaum-bound Karnataka State Road transport bus thrashed an alleged accused while he was caught red-handed pick-pocketing a passenger. When the bus reached near the Ravindra Bhavan-swimming pool road, the passengers alighted from the bus only to give the accused a sound thrashing before handing him over to the police for further investigations.
