Special team to tackle city woes: CM
PANAJI
, the issues plaguing Panaji residents continue to be the same -- sorry state of St Inez creek, traffic congestion and garbage management.
These issues were raised by the residents of St Inez during an interactive session with St Inez residents, Sunday evening, as part of his election campaign.
Speaking during the interaction, a lady pointed out that though the main roads are being cleaned; internal streets of the city are unattended.
"Our streets are very dirty. The main road is cleaned regularly but not these internal roads. There are many garbage dumps too," she pointed out.
The other issue raised was of the bad condition of the St Inez creek and traffic congestion.
"Traffic police wait at the corners of the St Inez junction and do nothing. Signals have also been erected years back but they are still not in working condition," said another resident.
Parrikar assured Panaji residents to appoint a special team under an IAS officer to address three main issues - cleanliness, garbage management and sewage connectivity. He also took a dig at the Corporation of City of Panaji stating that it is of no use.
"The municipality is not doing enough. There has to be a special team in place and I have decided to appoint it after the elections. An IAS officer will lead it so that he cannot be influenced by any local politicians. We have already received Rs 108 crore from the Centre under Smart City and the same amount will be released by the State Government," said Parrikar.
He also informed that base surveys for different projects to be implemented in Panaji are currently on. "Once these base surveys are completed within three-four months, the works will begin," he assured.
He however informed that 7-8 places in Panaji have been identified to create parking facilities for vehicles. Additionally, various government offices will be shifted to Patto complex in the days to come which will reduce traffic congestion, he stated.
Confident of thumping win: Parrikar
PANAJI: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar exuded confidence of getting elected with a thumping majority. Speaking to media after an interactive session with St Inez residents, he said, "Though many say that the by-poll is comfortably placed in my favour, I take this as an opportunity to meet my voters and depending on situation I'll even go to colonies and interact with them. Additionally, there are meetings held with key persons." "I probably have covered 25 per cent of the constituency and I am very confident that Panaji residents will give me thumping victory", said a confident Parrikar.
