Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday criticised former chief minister Digambar Kamat for merely laying the foundation stone and failing to begin construction work of a compound wall at the Cacora ITI complex.
He was speaking after launching road widening works at Cacora and laying of a foundation stone for the compound wall of Cacora ITI. Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) members and others were present on the occasion.
Cabral also laid foundation stones for developmental works in Cacora. An internal road widening and hot-mixing of road in Cacora will cost about Rs 4 crore, while a compound wall for the Cacora ITI will cost about Rs 68 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Cabral said during his tenure, several developmental works have been started, while road widening and hot-mixing of internal roads have been kick-started.
Pointing to the missing nameplate of the foundation stone at the ITI, Cabral said: “The concrete structure, meant for a nameplate of the ITI compound wall, was laid by Digambar Kamat during the tenure of earlier Congress government. The former Curchorem MLA along with Kamat had laid the foundation stone before the 2012 assembly election, but the compound wall failed to see the light of day. The erstwhile Congress government misguided the people,” stated Cabral.
“The foundation stone for the ITI compound wall was laid without obtaining a work order and without following procedures. But now, the work will start as it has not been done since the inception of Cacora ITI,” he pointed out, and added that canteen block for Cacora ITI will be tendered next week.
“The compound wall will be very helpful, as it will offer protection to the institute and students. The ITI administrative building came up about 20 years ago, but no compound wall was built till date. Considering the security aspects, compound wall work was given preference,” he added.
Cabral said the work was tendered about 7 months ago and that, the contractor got the work order about 15 days ago . “The work will start immediately,” assured the MLA.
