The Calangute Police Station arrested a suspect involved in a gold theft case, spanning across state borders. Nancy Dias from Candolim reported the theft of four gold plates from her residence on April 27. The accused, identified as Eyakub Mondal, who was employed as a servant by Dias, allegedly absconded with the stolen gold.
Following the complaint, Calangute Police initiated an investigation, uncovering leads suggesting the suspect's presence in West Bengal. Acting upon this information, a team comprising PSI Akshay Parsekar, Gaurish Karbotkar, and Harchandra Betkekar, under the supervision of Police Inspector Paresh Naik, was dispatched to West Bengal.
The team located Eyakub Mondal in Village-Panitara, West Bengal. They recovered a significant portion of the stolen property, comprising three gold biscuits weighing 300 grams, valued at approximately Rs. 25,00,000/-.
The operation was conducted under the oversight of SDPO Porvorim, Vishwesh Karpe, and SP North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS. Further investigation is in progress.
