Police on Tuesday arrested a 39-year-old local from Umtavaddo, Calangute for illegally possessing heroin worth Rs 90,000.
The contraband was found in a new Mahindra Thar vehicle which the accused was driving.
The alleged accused, identified as Austin D’Souza, was earlier arrested in a similar drug-related case in 2017, police informed.
Calangute Police informed that after getting specific information, a team of police officials conducted a raid and intercepted a new black-coloured Mahindra Thar driven by the alleged accused near Pizza Hut, Gauravaddo, Calangute.
During the search, a white-coloured powder-like substance suspected to be heroin weighing 9 grams and worth Rs 90,000 was found in the vehicle.
The contraband was seized after conducting panchanama. The vehicle which the alleged accused used for the commission of the crime was also attached.
A case under section 22(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985 was registered against the alleged accused who was remanded to three days of police custody.
Calangute Police informed that the father of the alleged accused was also involved in the supply of drugs.
The members of the raiding team were PSI Ramesh Harijan, HCs Vidyanand Amonkar and Manoj Naik and PCs Akash Naik, Vijay Naik, Ganpat Tiloji, Amir Garad and Laxman Patekar.
The entire operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Calangute PI Dattaguru Sawant and the guidance of SDPO Vishwesh Karpe and North SP Nidhin Valsan (IPS).
