Margao fire brigade rushed to the new market area of the commercial capital on Tuesday following a call that smoke is billowing from a shop.
The firemen started the fire-fighting operation after the owner opened the shop, storing paint.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but former Margao Municipal Council Damu Naik suspected that some persons staying around might have thrown a cigarette at the place.
Not much damage has been caused by the fire due to the timely intervention by the fire services.
