OLD GOA
Even as the Intruz celebration began in Dongorim-Mandur from Friday, Sarpanch Prashant Naik has demanded that the government should grant the festival the status of State festival.
Speaking exclusively to The Goan, Naik informed that annually the Intruz is celebrated, wherein all the five temples of Dongorim participate.
“The festival actually commenced from Friday and will go on till Wednesday, wherein the first Gulaal in the entire State is celebrated. However, Naik said that the important day of the festival is Tuesday, during which traditional music is played at the ‘Mell’ by both the young and the old.”
“On Tuesday, people from all over Goa as well as tourists come to Mandur to witness the ‘Mell’,” he added and demanded that the State government should declare Dongorim’s Intruz as a State festival.
“I invite the CM, Art and Culture Minister, Tourism Minister and other ministers to visit Dongorim during Intruz and witness the culture, art and tradition of the village passed from generation to generation,” Naik stated.
He then informed that he has already taken up the issue of declaring Intruz as a State festival with the local MLA Viresh Borkar.
