The campaign for by-elections to three wards in three different panchayats in Bardez ended peacefully on Thursday evening.
By-elections are scheduled in one ward each in Bastora, Verla-Canca and Oxel panchayats in Bardez.
“The campaign in all the three wards was peaceful and incident-free. There were no complaints of model code of conduct,” said Rajaram Parab, Returning Officer for the by-elections in Bardez.
There candidates each are in the fray in Verla-Canca and Bastora and two candidates are contesting in Oxel.
Nicole Marques, daughter of ex-sarpanch late Milton Marques, Zacharias Mendes and former sarpanch Mohan Dabhale are contesting from Ward 6 in Verla-Canca, while Megha Govekar, Sonia Salgaonkar and Reema Morajkar are the candidates for Ward 4 in Bastora.
Similarly, Pravin Kocharekar and former sarpanch Rama Parab are crossing swords in Ward 7 in Oxel.
A by-election was necessitated in Ward 6 of the Verla-Canca panchayat after former sarpanch, late Milton Marques passed away in December last year.
Similarly, by-polls had to be held in Ward 7 of the Oxel panchayat due to death of the incumbent panchayat member.
The by-election for Ward 4 of Bastora panchayat had to be held after the panchayat member Manisha Naik was elected as Zilla Panchayat member in December last year.
The by-election for the three wards will be held on March 20.
Voting will be held in a single booth in all the three panchayats “ government primary school at Chopdem, Oxel-Siolim, Sacred Heart High School at Verla and government primary school at Boa Vista, Bastora.
