In a rare achievement for the State’s southernmost municipality, Canacona has been nominated for an award in the Indian Swachhta League (ISL) organised by Swachhta Bharat Mission towards the movement for Garbage Free Cities in the Country (Swachh Sehar Samvad).

While Canacona has been shortlisted for an award in the below 15k population/category, Vasco city has received ‘Special Mention’ in the 50K-1L population/category, from over 1,850 cities across the country.

Both teams shortlisted from Goa have been invited for the special felicitation programme in New Delhi on September 30, as part of the valedictory session of the Swachh Sehar Samvad and Technology Exhibition.

Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar and Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar will be part of the delegation to visit Delhi to receive the award on Friday.

The Swachhta Bharat Mission (Urban) Joint Secretary and Mission Director Roopa Mishra conveyed this information to SMB-U Goa Mission Director Gurudas P Pilernekar, while complimenting Goa for displaying a strong commitment toward the vision of Garbage Free Cities.

Addressing a news conference, Naikgaunkar said he was elated that Canacona was recognised from over 1,850 cities across the country for the ISL award in the below 15K population/category.
