Claiming that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had sowed the seeds of Atmanirbhar and Swyampurna in society, various speakers also described the Maratha king as a symbol of integrity and social reforms.

The speakers were addressing an event in the Shri Mallikarjun and Chetan Manju Desai College Delem to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Canacona.

Principal Dr Manoj Kamat highlighted the various social and welfare measures initiated by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Prabhakar Dhage said Shivaji Maharaj strongly respected all religions and did not differentiate among caste.

“No one has any right to create or play divisive politics in the name of Shivaji. Instead, we have to take the initiative set by Shivaji Maharaj and inherit the same brotherhood and humanity for the welfare of present generation,” he said.

Chief guest and Goan Varta Editor Pandurang Gaonkar said it was Shivaji who had first floated the idea of Atmanirbhar and Swyampurna society, irrespective of caste and religion, in his kingdom.

Others present at the event included Society Chairman Chetan Desai, Secretary Manjunath Desai and Vice-chairman K B Naik Gaonkar.
