Incidentally as protocol, the local MLA is sent an intimation of every meeting convened by the council, but Canacona MLAs have rarely attended these meetings, sources told The Goan. “Former MLA Ramesh Tawadkar had attended a council meeting only once during his entire term, while former Canacona MLA Vijay Poi Khot also used participate in discussions in the council. But both legislators have never attended the special council meeting convened to pass the municipal budget,” the source added.
The source recalled that late Sanjay Bandekar was the last Canacona MLA to have attended a CMC meeting convened to pass its budget.
During the budget meeting, Fernandes took keen interest in understanding the income of CMC and how it is utilised for the welfare of the citizens.
