CANACONA
In a welcome move, Canacona is expected to get a new fish market in the near future, with a consultant being appointed to the project.
The GSUDA has finalised a consultant for the construction of a new municipal fish market behind the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) office building at Chaudi-Canacona, stated the office of Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes
Acotec Consultants Pvt. Ltd from Thane District in Maharashtra was finalized by GSUDA on April 13 after the financial bid was opened in mid-February.
The consultant has been appointed at the quoted percentage of 2.8 of the total cost of the project.
According to sources, the CMC had put forth the long-pending proposal to construct a new fish market before Fernandes, who then approached Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Minister for Urban Development Francis D’Souza to expedite the proposal.
He later followed up the proposal through correspondence and in personal interactions with D’Souza and the GSUDA.
The present fish market is being avoided by fish vendors on grounds that it is not conducive to operations.
The fish vendors have been occupying the public passage in front of Canacona Municipal Council building, but their presence in the passageway has caused inconvenience to public movement.
