The Vasco Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo informed on Saturday that Canara Bank officials have already claimed insurance and will soon start paying back all the customers who lost money in the ATM skimming fraud.
“We had nabbed a Romanian national who had fixed skimmers at the Canara bank ATM at Dabolim and subsequently after copying the data had withdrawn cash from different places in various locations of Goa and in Delhi. The accused is lodged in Colvale jail and investigations are going on to trace the other accomplice,” PI Raposo said.
“The chief manager of Vasco branch had now approached the insurance company and many of the customers from Mormugao who had lost their hard-earned money are likely to be reimbursed by the bank,” he added.
When contacted one Canara bank customer Sunny Naik said he had withdrawn some money from Canara bank ATM and later he received 4 messages that Rs 40,000 was withdrawn from his account via different ATMs.
“I lost 40,000 in one shot and we rushed to the Vasco police station to lodge a complaint. The PI said he would follow up with the bank. Now he has informed us that we are likely to get our money back as banks have applied and claimed insurance. I am thankful to the PI and the bank for helping us get our hard-earned money back,” said Naik.
