Cancer patients get relief as chemo centre opens at SGDH Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurating the Day Care Chemotherapy unit at the South Goa district hospital on Thursday.

MARGAO
Day Care Chemotherapy started at the South Goa district hospital on Thursday after the Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera, in a major health initiative, has gifted the State of Goa Day Care Chemotherapy Centres worth Rs 65 lakh through their Global Grant programme.

The initiative is also supported by The Rotary Foundation, Rotary International District 3170 and international partner Rotary Club of Seoul Jeil; RID 3640.

The Day Care Chemotherapy centres established at both the North and South District Hospital was inaugurated by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and District Governor Rtn Arun D Bhandare.

Through this grant programme, Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera aims to decentralise chemotherapy services and make them accessible at district level. This will reduce travel and financial burden on patients and caregivers and will improve treatment compliance and continuity of care for cancer patients. These day care centres will help to decongest Goa Medical College so they can focus on complex cases.

This initiative of Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera will benefit the underprivileged, economically backward and rural cancer patients who require follow-up chemotherapy closer to home. The facility will give immense relief to caregivers and families of the cancer patients by reducing their travel, costs, and caregiver fatigue as mentioned by Club President Rtn. Jeet Tolani.
