A fishing canoe capsized close to the shoreline at Baina beach on Monday morning, throwing all members of its crew into the sea.

Fortunately, the incident occurred near the beach, allowing alert locals to immediately rush to their assistance and bring the crew members safely ashore. No injuries or loss of life were reported.

The incident occurred at around 11.30 am when the canoe was preparing to venture into the sea for a fishing trip.

According to preliminary information, strong winds, rough sea conditions and high waves caused the canoe to overturn shortly after it was about to leave the shore.

The sudden capsize sent the crew members into the water, triggering panic among those present along the beach. However, as the canoe was close to the shoreline, local residents quickly responded and moved towards the affected crew members. Their timely intervention helped ensure that everyone reached the shore safely.

While all the crew members escaped unharmed, the canoe owner suffered financial losses as the fishing canoe and its motor pump were damaged in the incident. The owner also lost his mobile phone, which fell into the sea when the canoe overturned.

Locals said the crew members were fortunate that the canoe capsized close to the beach, as the situation could have turned serious had the vessel overturned farther from the shore.

The damaged canoe remained near the shoreline following the incident, while efforts were made to assess the extent of the damage. No further untoward incident was reported.
