PANAJI
Residents and visitors in the Capital City can expect to see custom designed signboards in the near future, with the Charles Correia Foundation designing new signboards and even identifying locations for these signboards.
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has now floated a tender to identify an agency to install these signboards in the municipality.
“We have floated a request for proposal inviting bids from agencies to install and maintain these new signboards,” said CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate.
According to information from the CCP commissioner’s office, there are presently around 950 signboards installed in Panaji. However, these signboards are not uniform and have more advertising content and less of traffic signs. Besides, these signboards were not found to be uniform in design.
The request for proposal stipulates that the agency will have to remove the earlier signboards and install the new signboards, besides maintaining them for five years.
The agency will install the signboards at its expenses and can recover the cost through advertisements. The CCP is also expected to get royalty and fees from the contract.
According to the tender, there is a maximum provision of 1,950 signboards which can be installed in the municipality.
Since Panaji City is close to the sea, salinity has affected the existing signboards and the new signboards are expected to be made from low-weight and non-corrosive material like aluminium.
