CANACONA

Noted cardiologist Dr Milind Dessai has requested authorities to provide an Echo equipment in the Canacona Community Health Centre and offered to provide his services at least once a week to the people of Canacona.

He was addressing a gathering after examining over a hundred residents in Canacona at a free checkup camp on Monday.

“People of Canacona have to travel to Margao and elsewhere to conduct these type of cardiac tests like Echo. If the government even in private partnership provides an Echo equipment, I am ready to provide my services to the people of Canacona,” said Dr Dessai.

He also suggested a Research Team, dedicated exclusively to investigate the many renal failure cases in Canacona.

The medical camp was organised by Canacona Patrakar Sangh in association with Canacona Municipal Council and a medical team of Imperial Hospital, Margao led by Dr Dessai examined 129 people at Asara-Ghar (Disaster Shelter Home) at Char-rasta.

A record of 129 ECGs were taken, diabetes and blood pressure was checked, with as many as 14 cases in need of advanced tests such as Eco-11 and TMT-3 were identified, while more than 10 people were advised change in diabetes medications.

Those present at the inaugural function included CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar, Councillors Simon Rebello, Sara Naik Desai, Narcisco Fernandes, Gandesh Madgavkar, Amita Pagi, Hemant Kumar Naikgaunkar, Social Worker/Centro Promoter de Instrucao President/Goa Cricket Association Vice-president Shamba Naik Dessai and the Imperial Hospital Margao medical team.
