The draft amendment to the Goa Building Rules and Regulations Act 2008 came in for strong opposition at the meeting of the Carmona panchayat.
The meeting chaired by sarpanch Prisco Rodrigues has opposed the draft-Amendment tooth and nail.
The resolution unanimously passed at the panchayat meeting pointed out that the Regional Plan for Goa 2011 to 2021 has already expired since the process for a Regional Plan with a horizon period of 10 years should have been started without which such large-scale projects cannot be allowed to be constructed.
The panchayat in the resolution has further pointed out that these proposed amendments also violate the provisions of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment which empowers villagers to have a holistic plan for their villages.
Sarpanch Prisco informed that considering the aspirations of the people of the village, the Carmona panchayat has unanimously resolved to oppose the draft Amendment to the Goa Building Rules and Regulations Act 2008.
Members have requested the sarpanch to place the matter at the ensuing extraordinary gram sabha meeting for further deliberation and action.
When contacted, sarpanch Prisco pointed out that the panchayat has called for the extraordinary gram sabha meeting on Sept 18 to discuss the issue since the government has set the deadline for the public to convey their suggestions and objections.
