Sarpanch of Carmona village panchayat Savita Mascarenhas is finally  out of office after the Panchayat Director Ajit Panchwadkar accepted her resignation on Monday.

The moot question that remains unanswered  is whether the Panchayat Director will fill up the vacant post of sarpanch first given that the 7-member Carmona panchayat has been  reduced to five with two seats falling vacant following the death of one  member and resignation by another member.

The Panchayat Director  told The Goan that his office has accepted the resignation of Carmona  Sarpanch Savita Mascarenhas on Monday. He, however, said he would take a  call when to convene a meeting of the panchayat body to elect a new  sarpanch. When his attention was drawn to the fact that the Carmona panchayat has been reduced to five members, taking into account the two  vacancies, Panchwadkar said he would study the matter.

“Right now, I  have accepted the resignation of the sarpanch. Now, my next step is to  fill up the vacancy within the time frame. As far as the two vacancies  are concerned, I will find out from my office the details vis-à-vis the  vacancies,” he said.

Sources said the two panchayat seats had fallen  vacant after a member Josinho Mendes had expired, while Benicio Carvalho  had tendered his resignation.

Incidentally, of the remaining five  members, panch Allwyn George has proceeded on leave. Sarpanch Savita  Mascarenhas has also been on leave, and only the remaining three  members, deputy Sarpanch Violani Fernandes, Sandra Fernandes and Winston  Dias were present for the gram sabha held recently.

Sandra has been on  record saying that she along with deputy Sarpanch Violani  Fernandes and Winston Dias and other panchayat members are ready to form  the new body in the interest of the village.
