Carol singing, star making workshop

MARGAO: Ravindra Bhavan Margao has organised a carol singing workshop for students of Std V to Std IX from December 7 to 11, between 4 pm to 6 pm at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

A press release issued by the organisers informs that the workshop is limited to Salcete taluka.Interested candidates are requested to collect and submit their forms by December 2, at Ravindra Bhavan office.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Bhavan has also organised a star making workshop for students from Std V to Std IX between December 14 to 16, between 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The workshop is limited to Salcete taluka only.

Cirilio in 'Meet the Writer' prog

MARGAO: Noted Konknni poet Cirilio D Fernandes will feature in the Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) 'Borovpiak Bhett' [Meet the Writer] programme to be held on Sunday, November 29, at 4 pm at the Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Cirilo, a 75-year-old was born to Pascaol and Refrezina Fernandes. Hailing from Benaulim, he

completed his Lyceum in Portuguese and took the plunge in the world of Konknni tiatr at an early age. He has written and staged about 7 tiatrs and one khell-tiatr, besides several one­ act plays. He has also composed over 90 kantaram (songs) and has the credit of singing them on stage as well. Later, he began to make his mark as a poet and he is considered as a writer of repute.

Of the six books he has written so far, his book of poems, ‘Mhojea Bannavle Ganvant’ fetched him

the literary award of Konknni Bhasha Mandal. He has also been felicitated by the Goa government with the ‘Kala Gaurau Puroskar’ and ‘Jivit’ magazine.

Modesty outrage complaint

MARGAO: A 65-year­-old lady hailing from Fatorpa and a motorcycle rider were injured in an accident which occurred at Fatorpa on November 25.

MARGAO: Acting on the complaint filed by a 22-year­-old woman, the Margao police

have registered an offence under Section 354­A of IPC against one Mohammed, who

is suspected of having allegedly outraged the modesty of the victim.

According to police, the incident happened at an ice­ cream parlour near SGPDA market where the suspect Mohammed, a resident of Ramnagri is suspected to have allegedly outraged the modesty of the woman.

Duo injured in accident at Fatorpa

MARGAO: Officials of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) demolished a structure constructed at Pajifond­ Margao.

According to Cuncolim police, the incident occurred when the motorcycle rider, one Henry, was proceeding from Fatorpa to Balli. Upon reaching Fatorpa, he knocked down the 65-year-old lady, one Manisha, thereby injuring her and himself in the process.

Upon getting information, Cuncolim police registered an offence under sections 279, 337, 338 of IPC and Section 185 of MV Act.

Further investigations are in progress.

Structure demolished at Pajifond

Sources informed that the structure, purportedly constructed in a property belonging to a temple committee, was reportedly illegal. According to sources, the owner of the structure was served with a notice by the MMC authorities earlier. However, the owner of the structure appealed to the courts.

Upon rejection of his appeal, the South Goa collectorate authorities directed the MMC authorities to demolish the illegal strucure.

Acting on the directions so issued, the MMC authorities demolished the structure on November 27.
