South Goa District Magistrate Jyoti Kumari, IAS, on Monday, prohibited the carrying of all types of arms, firearms, ammunition or lethal weapons in any public place, street, road squares, thoroughfare, bylanes or in any open place in entire district of South Goa with immediate effect until further orders given the ensuing panchayat polls.
The magistrate has further directed all the arm license holders in South Goa District to deposit all their firearms at the nearest Police Station of their respective jurisdiction with effect from July 18-22. All the firearms deposited will be returned to the license holder after five days from counting when the election process is over.
The order issued under section 144 of the CrPC has warned of punishment under section 188 of the IPC.
The order stated that if any person has a real threat to life or property, they should approach the Director General of Police for security and added that under no circumstances will any person be allowed to carry a licensed firearm.
