Judith Almeida blamed the police for going slow in the complaints lodged by Cardozo that he was allegedly abused by Colva sarpanch Menino Fernandes and panch Calvert Gonsalves on two occasions.
“Why is the office of the deputy collector and the police going slow in initiating action against the sarpanch and panch member for allegedly making casteist remarks against the panch?” she questioned.
Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Dinraj Govekar, who is investigating into Cardozo’s complaint, however, said the matter is under investigation.
“My office has applied to the deputy Collector to issue the caste certificate of Sarpanch Menino Fernandes to find out whether the Sarpanch and the panch member belong to the same caste. There is no delay in the investigations. We have recorded the statements and the investigations is going on as per the law,” DySP Govekar said.
