The fate of 95 candidates in fray for the Corporation of City of Panaji polls will be known on Tuesday when counting of votes will be taken up at 8 am at Pharmacy College, Panaji. The results of all 30 wards are expected to be out by 10.30 am.
Speaking to The Goan, Returning Officer Gaurish Shankhwalkar said 16 tables have been set up for counting with 16 supervisors and 16 assistants and reserved staff. Additionally, 100 police personnel have been deployed to take care of law and order.
“As regards to counting, it will be held in five rounds. Round I comprising of wards 1 to 6 will begin at 8 am. This will be followed by round 2 with wards 7 to 14, followed by round 3 with wards of 15 to 21 and round four with wards of 22 to 28. The last round will comprise only two wards -- 29 and 30”, he informed
Additionally, for the convenience of people, a digital scroll will be displayed at counting location wherein the results will be displayed as soon as counting is over.
“The certificate of election to the victorious candidates will be given after the results are declared”, he informed.
Nearly 74.81 per cent voters had exercised their franchise to elect the new 30-member CCP council on Sunday. Of the 23,675 who cast their vote, 1,316 (74.36%) were males and 12,359 (75.22%) were females. Nearly ten wards had witnessed voting above 80 per cent. While there were no major cases of law and order situation reported, some minor complaints of crowds gathering were received by the returning officer.
Meanwhile, the nearly five complaints of violation of code of conduct were received by the returning officer.

Traffic arrangement
for counting
PANAJI: Traffic Cell has made special traffic arrangements during the counting. The stretch of 18th June Road from Caculo Island to Old Education Department building will be closed for all types of vehicular traffic from 6 am till the counting process is over. The stretch of MG Road from Caculo Island to Don Bosco High School junction will be made two-way for the movement of traffic.
Vehicles of officials and of the general public attending to witness the counting process will be parked on the service lane along DBB Marg from Directorate of Health Services to Kala Academy junction. No vehicles will be allowed near the counting venue and from Caculo Island to Don Bosco School junction.
