MARGAO
Residents of Chandor on Tuesday evening organized a candle vigil in the village as a tribute to local lad John Dias who was shot dead at a store where he was working in the US.
The residents assembled near the church with candles in memory of the departed soul.
The locals remembered John for playing for the football clubs of Chandor and Guirdolim. 'John had played for the local football clubs as a goalkeeper. He had won laurels for him as well as for the club', recalled a youngster.
John was shot dead in a store at Texas, US on March 18, leaving a pall of gloom in his native village.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had later announced that the office of NRI Commissioner is in touch with the Indian Consul General in Texas, US to facilitate and arrange to bring back John's mortal remains home. In fact, locals expect to receive the mortal remains of the deceased soon.
