Several citizens of Mormugao Constituency under the Mormugao Citizens Group  led by Suraj Chodankar ( Balan ) on Tuesday alleged that fake cases were being framed against innocent people to target them politically for harassment as they were the supporters of Congress MLA Sankalp Amonkar.

"The BJP must accept defeat in Mormugao and stop destroying communal harmony in Mormugao by harassing people unnecessarily. The clashes during Holi was between two families but was given a political colour at the behest of politicians. The people of Mormugao have been celebrating and slowly uniting after Congress has won, " said Chodankar.

"The police are supposed to maintain law and order and not act as agents of any political party by creating further problems. The police seemed to be biased and while they spoke about a Councillor's father being injured, they never spoke about another person being injured by the Councillor's family member. I have been also termed as accused and  they have registered cases against me  when I do not have any idea of what happened on Holi as I was not even present there," said Chodankar.

Chodankar added that they did not want to indulge in political fights but  would celebrate all the religious festivals and organise social and cultural programmes unitedly and peacefully.

"We have always been united and we want to put an end to this political divide amongst friends who may be attracted to any political party.  We are all friends and there have never been violent clashes for politics ever and even the elections went smoothly. We have now approached a legal advisor to study this case and check what can be our next step of probably filing a PIL in this matter," said Chodankar.

Social activist Xencor Polgi said that the CM must also do a background check on the previous cases between the two families that clashed on Holi.

"Another person Nitin Bhagat was injured in the incident and I took him to the hospital myself after around one hour of the incident  but no one spoke about him and this is not correct.  The CM visited the father of the BJP Councillor in the hospital but no one even mentioned about Bhagat who was also injured in the incident," said Polgi.
