Cheating case against Mayem VP members

Bicholim Police have registered a case against a former Mayem-Vaiguinim sarpanch, the panchayat secretary and a former panchayat secretary, after they were accused of withdrawing money from the panchayat treasury without any resolution being adopted to that effect.
According to Bicholim Police, Bicholim BDO Shrikant B Pednekar complained that the accused, former Mayem-Vaiguinim sarpanch Veena Chodankar, panchayat secretary Suresh Phadte and former panchayat secretary Manohar Gaonkar withdrew a large amount of money from the Mayem-Vaiguinim Panchayat treasury, from 2013 to 2014, without passing any resolution.
The complainant further stated that fake vouchers and false bills were prepared and a forged signature was used, causing losses to the State exchequer.
Bicholim police have registered the case under Sections 465, 468, 471, 420 r/w 34 IPC and Section 13 (1) (c) (d) (e) (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1918 and is investigating the case.
