PANAJI: Crucial hearing on the ongoing water dispute between Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra is slated for today at the special Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal in New Delhi.
The issue of amount of yield from the river basin has been the major topic of contention among the states. The hearing on Wednesday will bring to light a crucial IIT report undertaken by Goa that estimates the annual runoff to be 145 TMC as opposed to the CWC (Central Water Commission) report that pegs the yield at 220 TMC.
Also expected to be highlighted during the hearings is the alleged blocking of water to Surla waterfalls by a Karnataka based hotel that was served with a notice from the Goa government a day later.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who has also evinced keen interest in the case, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi apprising him of Karnataka’s development.
