While the Chiclaim panchayat is firm on opposing the proposal to shift the off-shore casinos in the river off Chicalim following an unofficial meet on Tuesday, the panchayat is expected to ratify its decision at a meeting on July 15.
Chicalim Sarpanch Prajoti Kudalkar told The Goan that a decision to oppose the anchoring of the off-shore casinos at Chicalim had been taken at a meeting on Tuesday. A panch present at the meeting, however, said it was only an informal meet since most panchas were not present.
“We did not receive any proposal from the company. We decided to oppose the move after reading about it in the newspapers,” said Kudalkar.
“We are with the villagers and will not allow the anchoring of the casinos at Chicalim,” added Kudalkar.
Asked how many members were present at the panchayat meeting on Tuesday, Kudalkar declined to provide
the number.
When reminded that most panch members were not aware about the meeting as they did not receive any notice, Kudalkar hastily replied that she was busy and will provide more details in the panchayat office on Thursday.
When contacted, Panch Rahul D’Costa confirmed that he was present at the meeting. “It was an informal meeting. A formal panchayat body meeting will take place on July 15 to discuss and oppose the casinos at Chicalim,” he mentioned. He also confirmed that he along with three panchayat members, Sarpanch Prajoti Kudalkar, Dy Sarpanch Kamlaprasad Yadav and
Seby Pereira were present at the meeting.
