Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday launched the work on a retaining wall and road widening between Chicalim and Dabolim.

Others present included Sancoale ZP member Anita Thorat, Chicalim Dy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and Vasco Councillor Vinod Kinlekar.

Godinho had earlier inspected the road linking the Chicalim Panchayat to Dabolim near Vishal Mega Mart before launching the works on Tuesday.

Speaking to media, Godinho said the retaining wall and road widening work were the need of the hour and assured that both projects would be taken up despite the rains.

“This road was very narrow and had led to a lot of congestion and frequent traffic jams, as it was being frequently used by people going from Dabolim to Chicalim panchayat via Vishal Mega Mart area. There was also a need for a retaining wall in this area," said Godinho, adding that the work would be completed within a month.

Chicalim Dy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav said he had personally met with a minor accident on the narrow road.

“We are glad that the works are being expedited and will be taken up despite the monsoons,” he said.
