Barely days after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant directed the police to act against ‘matkekars’ making a lot of noise in Colvale, Working President of Goa Forward Kiran Kandolkar hit back and accused the State government of backing matka business with the help of police.
Speaking to reporters during the inspection of the national highway at Colvale, Kandolkar said the very fact that the chief minister admits that matka is present in the State, reflected poorly on the police department.
“It only goes to show that he has no confidence in the police force and is targetting his own department. If the chief minister wants to seriously stop matka in the State, he should shut down the matka being run by one “Babu” in South Goa,” taunted Kandolkar.
Responding to claims that the new police station was set up in Colvale to target some anti-social elements, Kandolkar said: “The people of Tivim constituency are not afraid. In fact, they are ready to file complaints against those who have stolen their votes and have changed parties.”
Accusing the BJP of double standards, Kandolkar said those who join BJP were accepted as clean while those who had left the party were treated as anti-social.
