The Tiswadi BDO Deepak Vaingankar accompanied by surveyor from Directorate of Settlement and Land Records and panchayat secretaries of Chimbel and Merces panchayats inspected the disputed areas of Morombi O Grande to ascertain claims made by both panchayats on jurisdiction of these areas.
The inspection comes after directives from the deputy director of panchayats based on an order from the High Court dated October 16, 2018, to dispose the boundary dispute between both the panchayats within six months.
Both Chimbel and Merces panchayats are involved in a dispute over jurisdiction of some areas of Morombi O Grande which are governed by the Chimbel panchayat.
The sarpanchas, deputy sarpanchas and some panchas of both Chimbel and Merces panchayats were present for the inspection which started in the morning and went for around three hours.
At the inspection, both panchayats laid claims to areas which they said fall in their respective jurisdictions. But even as Chimbel panchayat claimed jurisdiction of all disputed areas of Morombi O Grande, Merces panchayat mostly left out areas where residential houses exists. When The Goan questioned Merces sarpanch Pranita Kalangutkar over this selective claims, she said the Merces panchayat is claiming only those areas which it has claimed in the court. “We are not claiming any fresh areas,” she added.
Chimbel sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar, on the other hand, had not much to say, as he said that the issue will be decided in the court.
The Goan was given to understand that the report would now be submitted to the deputy director of panchayats. Merces Deputy Sarpanch Armstrong Braganza, Chimbel panchayat secretary Lency Juliao, Merces panchayat secretary Orville Vales, panchas and some Chimbel locals were present.
