Chimbel Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar had the last laugh as the no-confidence motion against him and Deputy Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar fizzled out, after one opposition panch who signed the motion switched sides and extended support to Kunkolkar’s ruling panel.
At the special meeting convened to discuss the no-confidence motion, opposition panch Laxman Adkonkar remained present not to vote in favour of the motion but to extend his support to the ruling panel led by Kunkolkar.
This sudden turnaround was a big setback for other opposition panchas, Mohan Narve, Mohini Narve, Gitaksha Badam, Arjun Borkar and Sandesh Chopdekar, who had moved the no-trust motion. They chose to remain absent instead of facing the embarrassment of defeat.
Ultimately, the no-trust motion against sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar and deputy Manisha Chopdekar could not be taken up and stood defeated, as there was nobody to propose the same at the special meeting.
Pramila Kunkolkar, Vasanti Vernekar and Rosy Uttukuri were the other panchas from the ruling panel who were also present.
EOVP Anil Dhumaskar was the observer while Chimbel panchayat secretary Lency Juliao handled the proceedings.
