Chimbel youth held for causing death

MAPUSA: Anjuna Police arrested a 26-year-old motorcycle rider from Chimbel in connection with a hit-and-run case.

According to the police, the alleged accused motorcycle rider Manikjan Hanif (26) of Chimbel had knocked down Steven D’Souza (64) from Cunchelim in Marna, Siolim, on December 1, 2016.

The police said the accused knocked down Steven who was riding a cycle and sped away from the spot. The accident had occurred at 10.30 am, but the police was informed only at noon and by then the accident victim had already died.

The police had then registered the case as unnatural death.

But when the deceased’s wife brought to the attention of the police that her husband’s death was actually a hit-and-run case, the police began to re-examine the case.

On Tuesday, police finally managed to zero in on the alleged accused and arrested him.

The accused has been arrested under Sections 279, 304 A of the IPC and 134 AB of the MV Act.

Anjuna Police is investigation the case further.
