Newly-elected Chinchinim panchayat body headed by Sarpanch Valentino Barretto has resolved to accord a warm welcome to Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai during his visit to the village, and also hand over a memorandum to him listing the pending issues plaguing the village.
Be it the decade-old Panchayat Ghar cum multipurpose hall or the Dandeavaddo road bypass or upgradation of the Chinchinim Primary Health Centre, the new body has decided to submit a memorandum to the Governor to use his good offices with the government to clear the projects.
After the first panchayat meeting, Sarpanch Valentino told the media that since the Governor is visiting the village, the panchayat has decided to hand over a memorandum to him, listing the pending projects affecting the village.
While the panchayat members will accord the governor a warm welcome, the Sarpanch informed that since the Panchayat Ghar cum multipurpose hall project has been hanging fire over the last one decade for lack of financial provision, the panchayat will make a plea to the Governor to take up the issue with the government.
“Our intention is to draw the Governor’s attention and seek his help so that the long-pending project sees the light of day,” he said, adding that the people have high expectations that the pending project should take shape at the earliest.
Valentino further said the panchayat would take up with the Governor the Chinchinim Primary Health Centre for upgradation. “The Chinchinim PHC provides very good facilities, but it should improve further to cater to the requirements of the villagers as well as the neighbouring villages,” he added.
Saying the panchayat body has been kept in the dark over the proposal to build the Dandeavaddo road bypass along the NH 66, the Sarpanch said the panchayat would seek the Governor’s intervention to direct the authorities to keep the villagers informed of the status of the proposed bypass.
Given that Chinchinim village has two Scheduled Tribe-dominated panchayat wards, the panchayat will also take up with the Governor the issue of sanctioning funds under the tribal welfare to the panchayat body for implementation of ST schemes.
On the stray cattle menace on the NH 66, the sarpanch said though the government scheme is in place, the ground reality is different because of the problems relating to the logistics.
