Councillor of ward no 18 Ameya Chopdekar was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the new Vice Chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council during a special meeting held in the MMC.

Chopdekar was elected as the new Vice chairperson after 16 councillors of the 25 memeber MMC had moved a no confidence motion on former Vice Chairperson Shraddha Mahale following which she had tendered her resignation from the post .

Speaking to media after the elections, Chopdekar assured the councillors that he will serve the council to the best of his capacities and take up all development works as the Vice chairperson.

" I have learnt a lot from ny parents because my mother and father have both been Councillors and have even held the position of the vice chairperson during their tenure. It is because of my parents that I began my political career and began taking up works . I began as the general secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha and went on to become the president and subsequently won as a councillor and I have finally been elected as the Vice Chairperson of MMC. My parents have been my backbone in politics," said Chopdekar.

MMC Chairperson Damodar Kaskar said that he was happy to have Chopdekar as the Vice Chairperson because of his helping nature and the ability to take up works.

Former MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said that it was a joint decision to fill up the vacant post of the MMC Vice Chairperson with a young and dynamic councillor who had a vision and hunger to work for the MMC.

" MMC is already facing a lot of issues and there is a burden on MMC and we thought that one section of the MMC could be given to Chopdekar who is young and dynamic so that he can become a helping hand and the MMC can also benefit," said Naik.
