Churchill lodges complaint against Velingkar

MARGAO

Former Minister Churchill Alemao on Saturday lodged a complaint against Subhash Velingkar with the Colva police station demanding action against the former RSS chief in Goa for making false, malicious and derogatory comments against St Francis Xavier.

Pointing out that former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had banned the entry of Rame Sene Chief Pramod Muthalik into Goa, Churchill has demanded that Velingkar be banned from entering Old Goa to maintain peace and harmony amongst the people of Goa.

His lawyer, Adv Radharao Gracias has warned that non-action by the Colva police would compel his client to file a petition before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao to register an FIR against Subhash Velinkar.

Colva police station in-charge, PI Melson Colaco told The Goan that the Colva police has forwarded Churchill’s complaint to the Panaji police for further action since the purported statement by Velingkar was made in Panaji. He also said that the complaint lodged by former Minister Mickky Pacheco has also been forwarded to the Panaji police station.

Addressing the media, Churchill pointed out that he has lodged his complaint with the Colva police after he was deeply hurt by the utterances and remarks made by Velingkar against St Francis Xavier.

“Lakhs of people across the globe are deeply hurt by the statements made by Velingkar on St Francis Xavier, which may give rise to communal tensions and disharmony”, he said.

“Velingkar’s statement has hurt my feelings as also those of lakhs of Goans. His entire press conference is designed to create communal discord. Towards this end, he has announced a tour of the State to further spread such communal venom and create disturbances and riots. The utterances of Velingkar constitute offences under Section 153, 153-A, 295-A and 298 of the IPC”, Churchill said.
