Churchill: Yet to decide on contesting LS polls

MARGAO
Saying that he is yet to take a stand on contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha election, former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao on Saturday predicted that the BJP would win both the North and South Goa Lok Sabha seat in next year’s election.

Saying the BJP will rule for the next 15 years, Churchill praised Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for ushering in the development of the State, further saying the BJP has ensured peace in the country since the time Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over the reins of the country 10 years ago in 2014.

Addressing the media, the two-time former MP said though he is being approached by political parties as well as by his supporters from South Goa with a plea to contest the 2024 LS poll, he will take the decision on contesting the polls at the right time.

He, however, predicted that the BJP will win both the North and South Goa LS seats in the coming election because of the development work ushered by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the State. “Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is instrumental in taking Goa’s development to new heights. Under his leadership, Goa has made rapid strides in the field of development,” he said.

While extending birthday wishes to the Chief Minister, wishing Pramod Sawant many more years to serve the people of Goa, Churchill said the Congress will not be able to do in the next 30 years what the BJP has done in the last 10 years on the development front. “I am indebted to CM Sawant for launching developmental projects in Benaulim during my stint as MLA. What was done in Benaulim during my tenure is still visible in the constituency. Those who had criticised me for taking up the development are enjoying the benefits today,” he said.

Reminding that he had taken up developmental projects across South Goa under the MPLAD scheme though the MPs then were entitled for Rs 1 crore funds every year, Churchill demanded to know where the money has been utilised in South Goa since the MPs now received Rs 5 crore funds every year under the MPLAD scheme.
