Will the South Goa district Collector, Ajit Roy take cognizance of the hardships faced by the members of the public visiting the Old Collectorate for official work, with the building lift non-functioning for over a fortnight now.
The four-storied Old Collectorate building plays host to as many as 8-9 government offices, including the office of the South Goa Zilla
Panchayat.
Official in the know pointed out that inconveniences have not only been caused to the public visiting for official work, but to the officials and staff working in these offices.
What’s interesting to note is that district authorities are yet to intervene and mitigate the hardships faced by the public though the situation was brought to the notice of the district Collector around last week.
It could not be gathered whether the lift has been non-functioning because the contractor has withdrawn following the delay in the payment of his maintenance fees or some other reason.
Offices of the Civil Supplies department, Directorate of Agriculture, Office of the Child Development Project Officer, Directorate of Women and Child Development, District Agriculture Office, South, Directorate of Tribal Welfare, office of the Administrator of Communidades, South are all housed in the Old Collectorate, besides the building playing host to the strong room for EVM machines and the South Goa Zilla
Panchayat.
A senior citizen lamented that the authorities are yet to intervene and repair the building lift, while demanding immediate restoration of the lift.
“This is totally unacceptable. If the has not been functioning for a fortnight now, that only goes to show the indifference and apathy of the authorities towards the Public,” the senior citizen said, while demanding the intervention of the Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate in the matter.
