In a meeting to draw broad contours of the Calangute village, members of the communidade and prominent citizens met on Tuesday and came up with several suggestions and ideas for planned development of the popular coastal village.
Several proposals like setting up of a water reservoir, multi-level parking, transport zone, market complex, power sub-station, etc, were discussed at the meeting.
The meeting was convened by North Goa Planning and Development Authority Chairman Michael Lobo and NGPDA Member Secretary G Pandita and other officials were also present.
“The meeting was basically to deliberate in forming the land use map and register for Calangute. This is one step before the Outline Development Plan is formed,” Lobo said.
There was a suggestion to construct a water reservoir in the catchment area in the fields in Boa Viage.
Similarly, a demand for a transport zone where tourist buses and other commercial vehicles could be stationed and multi-level parking was also proposed at the meeting.
In a bid to reduce pressure on the present road, a plan to construct a parallel/bypass road from Sinquerim to Baga, parking area near the St Alex Church, community hall, animal shelter and drug and rehabilitation center was also discussed.
“We are identifying land in the village where most of the projects could be accommodated,” Lobo said.
He said most of the communidade and tourism land will be used to set up the projects.
More meetings with citizens and members of the Calangute Panchayat will be held later before the plan is finalized, he added.
Calangute Communidade Attorney Anthony D’Souza, ZP Shawn Martins and several other citizens were present for the meeting.
