MARGAO
With around a week to go for the Zilla Panchayat polls, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and top BJP leadership descended on Margao on Friday to give final touches for the party’s poll strategy, with the CM exuding confidence that the BJP will form the South Goa Zilla Panchayat after the March 22 election.
The Chief Minister further went on to say that the party need not come out with a special strategy in minority Salcete, which has around nine seats at stake. He said the party is contesting only the two seats of Davorlim and Guirdolim.
Sawant along with party chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade, BJP organizing secretary Satish Dhond, former South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, Damu Naik, Rupesh Mahatme, and the party election in-charges in the 17 ZP constituencies went into a huddle at the district office here on Friday noon.
The top brass took stock of the situation after seeking inputs from the party constituency in-charges and are believed to have accordingly drawn up the strategy for the coming election.
After coming out of the meeting, the Chief Minister said the BJP has already won one seat from South Goa, the Sancoale seat, unopposed, exuding confidence that the party will form the South Goa ZP.
“I have taken a review of the situation in South Goa ahead of the March 22 election and have decided on the poll strategy,” he said.
When asked whether the BJP will have any special strategy for Salcete taluka, the Chief Minister replied with a firm no. “The party is contesting in only two seats in Salcete and as such has no special strategy for the taluka. We will go with our routine strategy,” he said.
