Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said that Inspector General of Prisons and Director of Municipal Administration, who has filed for voluntary retirement, should not be relieved unless the investigation against him is complete.
Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference, Parsekar said that, while Elvis is innocent until proven guilty and is a ‘good’ officer, granting him VRS was not the right thing to do.
“In my frank opinion, if there is a pending investigation, no doubt it should be expedited, but till then he should not be relieved,” Parsekar said.
Asked to comment on the Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D'Souza’s rant that Elvis has been framed despite not being in charge of the corporation when the acts took place, Parsekar said D’Souza’s statement was in all likelihood misinterpreted.
If there’s an allegation, then an FIR is filed. Just because there’s an FIR doesn’t mean he’s guilty. The case will go on. It will be investigated and the findings of the investigation will decide (the outcome). He must have said it... He must have said let the investigation complete and someone must have interpreted it as it was not right… Even what I say is interpreted in many unwanted ways,” Parsekar said adding that the VRS application filed by Elvis Gomes didn’t reach before his desk.
“I have publicly appreciated him on one or two occasion. I had given him the responsibility of the jail and he handled it very well. He did whatever was told to him. It is no mean task to get jail inmates to study. They appeared for exam, passed and I personally handed over the certificates,” Parsekar said.
Parsekar also sought to praise Elvis ability saying “he is a good officer.”
