A 22-year-old woman from Karnataka succumbed to burn injuries which she had sustained at her rented room at Quepem.

Speaking to The Goan, Quepem PI Pravin Gauns said Pooja Admani was cooking in her rented room when her saree caught fire. “As soon as her saree came in contact with the fire, she ran out of the house screaming in agony. Her husband tried to extinguish the fire and in the process he also sustained minor burn injuries to his hands and forehead,” said PI Gauns.

Police said she was rushed to the GMC Hospital at Bambolim, where she died of burn injuries on Thursday.

“There is no foul play suspected in this matter and the deceased gave her statement to the executive Magistrate-Salcete that it was an accident,” informed PI Gauns.

Police conducted the panchanama and the post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was due to 'Septicaemia of burns and consequent to extensive body surface area flame burns.'

The body was handed over to her husband, Manjunath, to perform the final rites.
