PANAJI: If ministers keep on giving their “personal opinions” on public forums we will be no different from the Congress, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said referring to contrary comments being made by his ministers on the medium of instruction issue.
Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference, and flanked by his deputy who himself offered his comments on the issue, Parsekar sought to stress that all ministers were part of government decisions and should stand by them.
“I have asked both Arlekar and Avertano to desist from making comments on the issue. It doesn’t bode well for the government when ministers speak their personal opinion. If that happens we will be no different than the Congress,” Parsekar said.
He however made no mention of the comments made by his deputy on the MoI issue. D’Souza had said that the government should respect the choice of the parents and the parents have the right to send their wards to whichever schools they want.
Asked for his stand on the MoI issue, Parsekar said he had elaborated the government’s stand on several occasions and that “withdrawing grants to the 140-odd schools which have been given grants was not a solution.” “Once you come to power you have to look after everyone’s needs not just those who have voted for you. You have to take all the people along,” Parsekar said.
