Act draws widespread criticism from people

Miscreants on Sunday tampered with the hoarding board, which saw the picture of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar being cut off. The hoarding was erected in the heart of Bicholim town for the upcoming Bhatagram Festival, where the chief minister is key note person along with Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal. has demanded with the police to initiate stringent action against the persons who have committed the act. When contacted, Bicholim PI Narayan Chimulkar said: “First of all, this act is not amounting to any offence and as such we cannot punish the person by law.” However, PI Chimulkar added that police are trying to find out the person or a group of persons who have committed the act, so that he can be imparted with good lessons. It may be recalled that the Bhatagram festival will be celebrated in Bicholim at Shetye Udhyan Bicholim from February 19 to 21.

Seraulim villagers up in arms over land filling

MARGAO Agitated residents of Seraulim and nearby villagers on Sunday made the contractor assigned the work of construction of western bypass to remove a piped culvert and also clear an area filled with mud as they feared large-scale flooding of low-lying areas in the village.

The villagers demanded to know how work on land filling could begin without the contractor putting up boards which have permissions sought from various departments for the activity.
