Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday chaired a stakeholders’ meeting to address frequent cable cuts and internet disruptions affecting businesses, educational institutions and government offices across Goa.
The meeting was attended by IT Minister Rohan Khaunte, Chief Secretary V Candavelou, and officials from the Public Works Department, Electricity Department, internet service providers and the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications.
Sawant directed the Electricity Department not to cut cables without prior approval and to coordinate with the IT department before taking up any such work. He said advance notice must be given before carrying out cable cutting and that safety protocols should be followed.
He also asked the IT department to make provisions for underground duct infrastructure and directed the Electricity Department not to carry out cable cuts for one year until the required infrastructure is put in place. He said underground ducts should be used in areas where such facilities already exist.
Officials said the departments and service providers would work together to reduce disruptions and protect digital infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted internet services across the state.
