Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said at least 4,000 to 5,000 houses have been affected on account of the floods that rampaged through eight talukas in the State, even as government officials on Saturday fanned out to various flood-affected areas to assess the damage.
Sawant also said that the water resources department was verifying the claims whether the release of water from the Tillari dam caused the sudden surge that led to flooding in
the State.
“Many have suffered heavy losses on account of the floods. The government will do all within its power to provide maximum possible compensation to the flood-affected people. Anyone who has suffered major or minor damages will be compensated,” Sawant said.
The chief minister was speaking to the media after paying a visit to Daukund, a village in Dharbandora which faced the brunt of the floods on Friday. Earlier, the CM also visited the Usgao market and took stock of the situation in the area.
Sawant informed that 100 to 150 houses in Daukund were completely submerged in water for at least eight hours and the people living in those houses had to rush to a nearby hill for safety.
He disclosed that PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar reached out to the marooned villagers later in the evening and shifted them to a nearby government school.
He further said that his administration was working round the clock to restore water, power and road connectivity in the area.
“People will be allowed to stay at the rehabilitation centres until such time that they rebuild their houses,” the CM assured.
He said he was aware of the view that the sudden surge of water could be due to the release of water from the Tillari dam.
“We are looking into the matter. The water resources department is investigating into it,” he said.
