Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said that he will hold a meeting of panchayats in the coastal belt as well as the MLAs on garbage management, as the state-of-the-art garbage treatment plant is scheduled to be fully operational from May 30 onwards.
Parsekar, along with Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Monday, inspected the plant at Saligao. Though the trial runs have begun, the plant will be commissioned fully from May 30.
“In the morning I had visited the garbage treatment plant at Saligao along with the Deputy Chief Minister. It is a sophisticated plant, but the kind of garbage which is being brought there is mixed which includes glass, bricks and debris, among others,” he informed.
“This has to be segregated at the starting point itself, for which we have called a meeting of panchayats in the coastal belt on Thursday, and it will be attended by sarpanchas, secretaries and the four legislators,” he said.
“If we set up a sophisticated plant which doesn’t serve the purpose for what it is set up for, it will be rendered useless. The mixed garbage will adversely affect the machine. We already have a lot of garbage, but it has to be brought to the plant in the proper manner,” he said.
