Cuncolim Municipal Council Chairperson Anjela Luis has quit office in tune with the understanding to rotate the Chairperson’s chair amongst all the women councillors of the civic body before the current term ends in October

next year.

Anjela Luis was elected the Chairperson of the Cuncolim civic body around three months ago, with the condition that she would quit office after the three-month period to pave way for Kiran Naik to take over as the chief.

With Anjela’s resignation set to come into effect later this week, Cuncolim municipality may have a new

Chairperson after Ganesh Chaturthi.

Cuncolim Municipal Council has a total of six women councillors in the 12-member body, of which three of them including Lavita Mascarenhas, Polita Carneiro and Anjela Luis were already elected to the coveted post during the current term.

The present ruling group, which has as many as four women councillors, had decided at the time of electing Anjela Luis that the remaining three members, including Kiran Naik, Penzy Coutinho and Succorina Coutinho would all share the Chairperson’s post via rotation before the tenure of the current council ends next year.
