For the first time after changing sides, Tivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar on Tuesday publicly appealed to his constituents to forgive him and vowed to work in the interest of his people and development.
“Those who have reservations against my decision to change parties…I hope you will forgive me and I am sure you will do so. I will work to give my people the best service and to usher in development in the constituency,” Halarnkar said.
The Tivim MLA made the appeal while addressing the gathering at the function of distributing cheques to flood-affected victims in Colvale in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Revenue Minister Jennifer Monseratte.
He said the people of Tivim have always stood by him and there was no doubt that they will do so in future too.
Complimenting the Chief Minister for taking some firm decisions in the interest of the State, he said the 10 MLAs who switched sides and joined the BJP have done so to strengthen the CM’s position and will firmly stand by him for the development of Goa.
“As a Speaker, he conducted the proceedings of the House with utmost discipline and now as the Chief Minister he has been taking firm decisions. That is why we decided to unconditionally back the CM to protect the interest of Goa,”
Halarnkar said.
He said the CM went out of his way to offer assistance to the flood-affected people even through the chief minister’s relief fund so that people could get benefit before Ganesh Chaturthi.
“Even yesterday when I went to meet the CM, he was holding meetings with the corporates to generate additional resources and contribute to relief efforts.”
