The menace of stray cattle and dogs to visitors at the world famous Colva beach seemed to have escaped the attention of the authorities.
In fact, with strays seemed to have made world famous Colva beach a second home in the absence of action worth its name by the authorities to tackle cattle and dogs.
Colva Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes said the panchayat had in the past made correspondence to the Tourism department to provide a small space to the panchayat body to conduct the ABC programme.
“We will again remind the Tourism department on this count. The Panchayat had also asked the Tourism department to part with a small piece of land for its use, but the proposal has received a reply saying the proposal is kept in abeyance”, the Sarpanch added.
The issue has figured prominently at the gram sabha of the local Colva Panchayat umpteen number of times over the years, but in vain. Questions are being raised why the NOGs working in the fields of stray cattle has still not stepped in to impound the cattle and tow them to the Gaushallas.
At the last gram sabha, member Thomas Rodrigues had raised the issue of stray dogs staring at the tourist village. He had contended that animal lovers are ready to work in the village to take up the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme if space is provided to conduct sterilization.
